What is a consultation?
A consultation is a short, informal conversation — not a full therapy session. It’s a chance to see if we feel like a good match and decide whether ongoing therapy may be right for you. What will happen during the call?
You’ll share what brought you here, what you hope to work on, and a bit about your background.
I’ll talk about how I work as a therapist — including whether I lean toward open-ended, insight-based support, structured and goal-oriented therapy, or a mix.
You’ll be able to ask any questions you’ve got about my experience, style, and what working together would look like.
You might ask things like:
“Have you helped clients with concerns similar to mine?”
“What do your sessions usually look like?”
“If I decide to move forward, what comes next?”
“Do I need to fill out intake paperwork?”
“How do payments or insurance work?”
“What is your cancellation/rescheduling policy?”
“Should I reach out by phone or email for scheduling or questions?”
After the call, take a moment to reflect:
Did I feel heard and understood?
Did the therapist’s style feel comfortable and supportive?
Does their approach seem like it fits how I learn or communicate best?
If you answer yes, great! If something felt off — that’s okay too. A good fit is about finding someone you can build trust with over time.
What if it doesn’t feel right?
That’s completely okay. Finding the right therapist is important, and sometimes it takes a little searching. If the connection wasn’t there, keep exploring other providers who better align with your needs and preferences.
